Tania joined HealthBid as a Bid Writer in April 2019. Tania is Portuguese; born in Lisbon, she moved to Leeds aged 7 and studied English Literature MA and History of Art MA at the University of St Andrews.
Welcome to the Hot Seat, Tania! To get us started, can you tell us your full name?
Tânia Marlene Tavares-Pinto.
Can you tell us about any causes that you’re passionate about?
I’m interested in Children’s care, particularly Looked After Children. I’m also passionate about homelessness - I was involved with quite a few homeless projects in University. For the past couple of years, I have volunteered teaching English to adults with low English proficiency.
Impressive stuff! Next, can you sum up your day so far in three words?
Reading, travelling, [more] reading.
If you could be anybody for a day, who would you be and why?
Angelina Jolie! I have been lowkey obsessed with her for as long as I can remember. She’s such a good person and she’s an advocate for causes that I’m passionate about – like Looked After Children and those in developing countries.
Angelina is pretty fab! Do you like to travel?
I do. I don’t travel as much as I would like to, but I definitely have plans to travel the world someday!
What’s your favourite destination so far?
Shanghai was really cool! I visited 3 years ago in 2016, for 2 weeks. I went as part of a Traditional Chinese Art History course through my University.
Sounds incredible! You studied at University in Scotland – can you tell us the about the best parts of living there?
I love Scotland! My ultimate dream would be to retire there. It’s a lot calmer than England – I chose it over London! Everyone in Scotland is really friendly, and the towns are really quaint and cute – like stepping back in time. Fife, where I lived, was right by the coast and I have always loved the sea so that was great for me.
Do you like cheese?
I love cheese. Cheese is life!
What is your favourite type of cheese?
I like a lot of different ones. I quite like creamy, milder cheeses, like edam.
Yummy. Now for the Pub Quiz Question! It’s an easy one – which team won the Cricket World Cup in Sunday’s final?
I didn’t watch it – it was between England and New Zealand, right? I think it was England!
It was! The HealthBid team are still reeling from that super over. Final question now; could you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
When I was younger, I used to think in a different language – Portuguese – and now I think exclusively in English!
That’s a pretty remarkable fact! Thanks, Tania!
